How To | Creating a small sewing or serging Meetup

Sew-Mo!

We run a mobile sewing and serging group that meets periodically in public locations such as Hobby Lobby classrooms or JoAnn Fabrics store classrooms. Other places that may have space available  Michael's Craft Stores,  local fabric stores or quilt shops. 

Venue:

Depending on the size of the store:
Hobby Lobby has classrooms - ours is free - check yours
JoAnn Fabrics stores that have a classroom will let Meetup groups use for free if they have an opening in their class schedule that is not booked for a (paying) party
Getting space to seat 8 works pretty well

The meeting facility provides

  • Tables
  • Chairs
  • Electric Outlets
  • Decent lighting


Optional - Organizer provides 
Typically, I provide

  • A portable dorm-style Ironing Board
  • Iron
  • Water spray bottle


Users bring


  • Cutting Mat
  • Rotary Cutter
  • Their own sewing notions / supplies, thread, scissors etc.
  • Sewing machine and power cord/pedal
  • Serger and power cord/pedal

Promote your group 

  • Advertise on pull tags at fabric store bulletin boards
  • Facebook sewing/serging groups if you have advance permission from the Group Admin/Owner 
  • Flyers sent to local sewing and quilting guilds in your area
